How to Trim Under Your Nose Without Cutting the Mustache Too Short

To tidy the mustache under your nose, preserve the body of the mustache and remove only the hairs that cross your chosen lip line. Do not push a trimmer upward through the center to create more space. That can remove the fullness you meant to keep.

Prepare the hair and the view

Use even lighting and keep your head upright. Comb the mustache into its normal fall. If you washed it, follow your tool's use instructions and assess the shape once the hair has settled. Keep your mouth relaxed so the line you trim matches how you normally look.

Trim in small sections

Decide what stays. Look at the center, both corners, and the lower edge. Decide whether you only need a lip-line cleanup or also need to reduce overall length. Do those jobs separately.
Set length conservatively. If the body needs shortening, fit a compatible comb and start with a longer setting. Check a small area before trimming across the whole mustache.
Expose only the edge you need. For outline work, use the detail blade as directed by your model's instructions. Keep it in view and use light contact.
Work from each side toward the center. Make short passes along hairs extending over the lip. Pause at the center instead of sweeping straight through it.
Compare both sides. Comb again, relax your face, and step back. Remove another hair only when you can see why it needs to go.

Keep the blade outside the nose

A mustache trimmer is for the visible hair outside your nose. Do not insert its cutting head into a nostril. Nose-hair grooming requires a tool designed for that purpose. The MB-042C and MB-042L detail trimmers are not substitutes for a nose-hair attachment.

If you already cut a section too short

Stop shortening the surrounding hair to chase perfect symmetry. Comb it into place and leave the area to grow. You can keep the lower edge tidy without making the entire mustache thinner. For your next session, record the comb setting that worked and return to it before trying a shorter one.
